How to use this calculator

Enter the exposed dimensions of a single piece and the total quantity. For pavers and flat stone, use flat coverage. For wall stone, veneer, and edgers with a visible face, use face coverage. For edging pieces measured end-to-end, use linear coverage. Irregular natural stone, joint width, cuts, and installation pattern all change the real coverage — carry 5–15% waste on most projects.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use — flat, face, or linear?
Use flat coverage for pavers, flagstone, and treads laid horizontally. Use face coverage for wall stone, veneer, and any piece measured by its visible face. Use linear coverage for edgers, curbs, and border pieces sold by the running foot.
How much waste should I add?
Rectangular cut pavers on a simple pattern: 5–7%. Random / irregular natural stone or ashlar patterns: 10–15%. Diagonal, herringbone, or heavy-cut layouts: 15%+. If you are matching an existing project or the shipment is far from your yard, order on the higher end so you are not forced into a partial re-ship.
Does this include mortar joints?
No. The calculator assumes tight-fit coverage from the stated piece dimensions. For wide dry-stack joints (¾″+) or mortared applications, coverage per piece drops slightly — add 3–5% to your waste factor to compensate.
What if my pieces are irregular?
Enter the average exposed face of a representative piece. Natural cleft, tumbled, and hand-split stone varies ±10–20% piece to piece; that is why a waste allowance exists. For fieldstone and mosaic veneer, always order by face square feet, not by weight.
Common use cases
Estimating pavers for a patio or walkway, veneer for a fireplace or accent wall, wall stone for a seat wall, and edgers for a garden border. Combine with the Wall Face Area and Pallet Quantity calculators for full material takeoffs.

Results are estimates. Actual quantities, weights, and costs vary with material variability, installation method, freight conditions, waste, and site-specific factors.
