Frequently asked questions
When should I choose LTL vs. flatbed?
LTL (less-than-truckload) is best for 1–6 pallets under ~10,000 lbs total, on level pavement with a forklift or liftgate available. Flatbed is required for anything over ~48″ tall banded, boulders, oversize slabs, or 8+ pallets. If the site cannot receive an 18-wheeler, split into two LTL shipments.
Do I need a liftgate?
Order a liftgate when the destination is residential, when there is no forklift on site, and when pallets weigh under ~3,500 lbs (most liftgates are rated to that). Boulders and oversize pallets require forklift or crane offload — a liftgate cannot handle them.
What is a residential surcharge?
Most LTL carriers charge $80–$180 extra for residential deliveries because they staff and route those runs differently. Adding a business address or a nearby terminal pickup can save 15–30% on total freight.
How accurate are the pallet and weight totals?
The calculator adds line items directly, no rounding. Real-world freight bills are based on weight and dimensional (DIM) volume — always confirm final rating with the carrier before booking, especially for tall or overhanging loads.
